The critic’s harsh critique hung in the air like a noxious fog. Chef Theo sat in his office, his usually ordered workspace now a chaotic jumble of papers and half-eaten snacks. He couldn't focus on anything. His hands trembled as he reread the damning paragraphs, each word a fresh wound. He felt exposed, vulnerable, as if the critic had personally stripped him bare.

He was losing himself. He stared at the whiteboard, covered in scribbled ideas and potential menu items, and felt completely blank. The joy he once derived from creating and experimenting had evaporated. He felt a deep, pervasive sense of loss.
