The world seemed to dull for Emily. The news anchor’s cheerful voice on the television was a grating sound, like fingernails on a chalkboard. "The Cozy Corner Cafe," her favorite breakfast spot, was shutting down. Her usual Saturday morning ritual – the sourdough toast, the strong coffee, the gentle hum of conversation – was gone.

She stared out the window, the morning sun offering no comfort. The vibrant colours of the world had become muted. She sat, still in her dressing gown, refusing to get ready, to face the day. The thought of finding a new place, a new routine, was just too much to handle.
