The vibrant colours of the art supplies in front of her seemed muted. Emily had spent weeks organising a painting workshop, a creative outlet. But the thought of it now brought a hollowness to her chest. Her friend, Jake, was having a massive costume party.

She slumped in her chair, the cheerful music from her playlist grating on her nerves. She picked up a paintbrush, dipped it in crimson, and swirled it across the canvas, but the colour felt dull, lifeless.

She stared at the blank canvas and felt a sense of defeat. All the creativity had somehow evaporated. She let the brush fall from her hand with a disheartened thud.
