Rain lashed against the windows of Leo's tiny apartment, mirroring the turmoil churning inside him. He stared at the photographs scattered across his coffee table, the images mocking him with their vibrant past. His grandfather, the war hero, was clowning around in a garish Hawaiian shirt, draped in leis and holding a cocktail.

Leo had always envisioned his grandfather as stoic, reserved, a man burdened by duty. The family stories were full of heroic tales, of courage under fire. Now, he was looking at a man who looked like he knew how to have a good time. A wave of unease washed over him. He felt hollow, as if the foundations of his understanding of the world were crumbling.

"This is… not right," he muttered, the words barely audible above the drumming of the rain. He felt a deep-seated weariness, a sense of having been sold something that wasn’t true.
