“This is… fantastic,” Liam muttered, forcing a smile that felt alien on his face. He watched Professor Klein, his advisor, pack his belongings, the air thick with unspoken disappointment. His research felt like a long, arduous journey, now abruptly cut short.

He rubbed his temples, a dull ache throbbing behind his eyes. The lab, his second home for so long, felt strangely unfamiliar. The familiar smells of chemicals, the hum of equipment, all suddenly felt foreign.

He wished he could just disappear, vanish into thin air. He knew he had to be strong, to move forward. But, in that moment, the task seemed impossible.
