The rhythmic click-clack of the knitting needles, once a comfort, now grated on Evelyn's nerves. She stared at the half-finished scarf, the yarn a tangled mess in her lap. The living room, usually a haven of cozy warmth, felt stuffy and confining. The cozy blankets and throws, all hand-knitted, served as a constant reminder of all she had once held dear. She felt...weary.

Her son, Tom, was obsessed. He'd raid her stash of yarn, experimenting with textures and patterns, his brow furrowed in intense concentration. He showed her the intricate cable knit he’d mastered. "Look, Mom!" he’d declare, his face beaming.

Evelyn wanted to share in his enthusiasm, truly she did. But the feeling that she was watching the echo of her lost joy, always lingered.
