She crumpled the notice in her hand, the paper crackling like a dying flame. The tears welled, blurring the harsh lines of the print. The air in the tiny bedroom felt thick, suffocating. She threw herself onto the bed, burying her face in the threadbare pillow.

Her body ached, a deep, pervasive weariness settling into her bones. The world, once vibrant and full of possibility, now appeared muted and distant, like looking through a fogged-up window. Each breath felt like a labor.

“Not again,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. The weight of the world pressed down, making her wish she could simply cease to exist. A single, silent sob shook her shoulders.
