She scrolled through the listing, each click a fresh wound. The kitchen, once overflowing with the aroma of her mother's baking, was now sterile and gleaming. The new granite countertops seemed to hum with an alien energy. Her shoulders slumped, a weight pressing down.

Her phone buzzed. It was her sister. She ignored it. She just wanted to be alone. She let out a sigh of profound weariness, the air leaving her lungs like the slow leak in a tire.

She sat on the floor, the cold tile a small comfort. It was absurd. She felt so…diminished. Like a deflated balloon. The cheerful descriptions of the “updated” features grated on her nerves. She wanted to scream.
