The cheerful images on the screen felt like a personal insult. The thought of strangers inhabiting the space that held so many memories was unbearable. He felt…hollow, like an empty shell.

He stood up, his legs feeling weak. He shuffled to the window and stared out at the city. The lights seemed to mock him with their artificial glow. He wrapped his arms around himself.

He slumped onto the floor, the cold tile a harsh contrast to his internal warmth. He felt a deep longing for something he couldn't quite define. Just emptiness.
