The silence in Emily’s house was deafening, usually a source of comfort, but now, a burden. She felt like she was trapped in a perpetual state of grey. The days bled into one another, filled with the same repetitive tasks and the same empty spaces. She’d lost all her passion, her spark, her sense of self.

Then, a knock on the door. A woman, bearing news of her father, and a request. She had a sister. Her father had another daughter. Emily felt her stomach twist. The world tilted on its axis, and she felt herself losing her footing.

She invited the woman in, but their words felt distant, like echoes in a canyon. The house felt suffocating, filled with unseen shadows and unspoken regrets.
