Maya stared at the ceiling, the cracks in the plaster a map of her own fractured spirit. The job hunt was a disaster. Interviews led nowhere, leaving her feeling inadequate and defeated. She was running on fumes, constantly second-guessing herself. The pressure was suffocating.

Her doctor had mentioned therapy. She was wary, but the constant worry and fatigue were making it difficult to function. She agreed to give it a try. She’d walked into the office, feeling heavy with dread. Her jaw tightened as she heard her name called.

The therapist, a man with kind eyes and a welcoming smile, extended his hand. It was Jason, the boy who'd once spread a particularly hurtful rumor about her in high school. The world seemed to stop for a moment. She felt the blood drain from her face. How could he possibly understand?
