Gemotions

The fluorescent lights of the teachers' lounge hummed, a monotonous sound that amplified the hollowness inside Mr. Evans. The curriculum, the tests, the endless paperwork… it all seemed to be designed to stifle his passion. He pushed a half-eaten sandwich around his plate, the taste of it utterly absent. He felt emotionally drained, and it was getting worse by the day.

A package arrived, addressed in neat, familiar handwriting. Inside was a worn copy of a book he had loved as a child, a book he'd often recommended to his students. It was from David, a student who had always been a voracious reader. He had seen the way David’s face lit up when he spoke about a certain book.

He held the book, the well-loved pages feeling familiar. A wave of bittersweet nostalgia washed over him, a reminder of the joy he once took in shaping young minds.
