Gemotions

The lilies-of-the-valley, delicate and fragrant, sat on the bedside table. She woke, groggy and disoriented. Another day. Another round of medication. The sun streamed through the window, but the light felt cold.

The flowers, untouched, seemed to judge. Was someone sorry for her? She had nothing to do. She sat up slowly, feeling every ache and pain. The thought of getting up was a battle in itself.

She wanted to scream. She wanted to rage. She just lay there, the lilies a reminder of the life she could no longer live.
