The phone rang, and the sound reverberated through Mark's quiet apartment. It was Mrs. Peterson, his neighbor, calling to discuss the fence. He braced himself, expecting the usual polite pleasantries, but a wave of disquiet washed over him.

He felt pinned in place. The thought of change, of something altering the familiar landscape, filled him with a strange dread. His vision started to blur.

He found himself struggling to breathe as he listened to Mrs. Peterson's detailed plans. He focused on the details, but her words sounded muffled, and their meaning became opaque. He had to get off the phone.

“I…I’m not feeling well,” he stammered, abruptly ending the call. He collapsed back into his chair, the world spinning around him.
