The weight of the unopened letter pressed heavily on Arthur's chest. He'd put off checking the mail all day, each passing hour intensifying the inner turmoil. His hands trembled as he finally reached for the envelope, the paper crisp and cold against his skin.

He sat on the porch swing, the rhythmic creak of the chains a mocking soundtrack to his inner monologue. The job meant everything – financial stability, a chance to prove himself, a validation of his skills.

He wanted to scream, to lash out at the universe, to run away and hide. But he just sat there, frozen, the unopened letter a silent, accusing judge.
