The email notification on Ben's phone felt like a physical blow. A picture of David, his supposed architect friend, in a greasy mechanic's uniform. It was shared on a local gossip group. Ben had been showing off David's work for years, boasting about his incredible talent. Now, the weight of the lie bore down on him. He felt as if the air had been sucked out of the room. He needed to get out, he thought. He dropped his phone on the table and stood up. He walked slowly towards the door, unsure of what to do next.
