The constant buzzing of the phone, always in the same secluded corner of the house, had become a dull, persistent ache in Olivia’s head. She found the receipts, hidden deep in a drawer. Hotel stays, expensive dinners, all documented with meticulous detail. Her husband, Mark, had been working late a lot recently.

She walked through the house, each room suddenly feeling unfamiliar, tainted by a secret she didn't want to know. The cozy living room, the shared bedroom, the kitchen where they'd eaten so many meals together – all now felt alien. She felt an overwhelming need to run, to escape the suffocating weight of suspicion.

She paced the bedroom floor, feeling the sting of tears behind her eyelids.
