She felt a tremor run through her, like a cold draft. The framed photograph on her desk showed her and Ben, beaming. Beneath it, a note from him recounted the day they "rescued" a lost puppy from the park. In her memory, however, she was the one who found the dog, while Ben had spent the entire time complaining about the cold and the mud. Her breath hitched. She picked up a pen and started scribbling furiously on a pad of paper, then crumpled it and threw it in the trash, then repeated the action over and over.
