Gemotions

The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the living room as Maya stared at the contents of the box. She hadn’t slept well since finding it. Her heart hammered against her ribs.

She was surprised by a flood of emotions. She pulled a faded drawing of a rainbow and unicorns. She remembered how much she loved it. She wanted to throw it away.

She felt like she was fifteen again, awkward and unsure of herself. The memories, once buried, were rising to the surface, bringing with them a strange feeling. She wanted to scream.
