"Brad Henderson wants to be your friend," the message read, and Daniel felt his face flush with heat. He remembered Brad’s constant belittling, the taunts in the school corridors. A knot of anxiety tightened in his stomach.

Daniel found himself clenching and unclenching his fists. The world felt muffled, as if he were underwater. He felt trapped, pinned down by the weight of the past.

He slammed his laptop shut, the sudden noise filling the room. He needed to be alone, to deal with this, to control the storm of memories that threatened to overwhelm him.
