The review sat on the counter, a stark white rectangle amidst the chaotic symphony of the kitchen. Chef Antoine stared at it, the words blurring like a watercolor painting left in the rain. He ran a hand through his already disheveled hair, leaving flour dust clinging to his fingers. His stomach churned, a cold knot tightening with each passing second. He felt a bead of sweat trickle down his temple. The critic had called his signature dish, the Coq au Vin, "a culinary catastrophe."

He slumped against the stainless-steel counter. He had poured his heart into that dish, the recipe passed down through generations. He hadn't slept in two days perfecting the sauce, agonizing over the perfect balance of herbs and spices. Now, it was labeled a failure.
