He’d asked her to meet him at the park, under the old oak tree. The setting sun cast long, skeletal shadows across the grass. Sarah's hands trembled as she saw him approaching, but the smile died on her face when she saw the woman beside him. The woman, with a brightly coloured scarf, gave a little wave. Her face was familiar. It dawned on Sarah that she’d seen her picture, a selfie, on the man’s social media. The man, Mark, stopped a few feet away, his expression flickering between surprise and something that looked suspiciously like panic. He ran a hand through his hair, his eyes darting between the two of them. Sarah felt a coldness creep into her chest, chilling her to the bone.
