"Reunion, huh?" Jessica said aloud, her voice tight. The paper felt like a lead weight in her hand. She sat on the edge of her bed, staring out the window. It had been a long time since she'd thought about those days.

She remembered all the slights, the whispered comments, the feeling of being an outsider. That was probably how everyone still saw her. She shifted uncomfortably, feeling a coldness spread through her.

She rubbed her arms, trying to shake off the chill. She'd spent years building a life for herself, away from them. And now, she felt, here was a test.
