The world seemed to shrink around Sarah. The journal, the one she’d poured her heart into, was on Emily's bed, casually discarded. She felt like someone had punched her in the gut.

Emily was smiling, scrolling through her phone, completely unconcerned. "Oh, hey! I was reading your journal. Some of the stuff is, like, *so* dramatic." She chuckled, shaking her head.

Sarah’s hands started to tremble. Her vision blurred momentarily. The air felt heavy, oppressive, as if the oxygen had been replaced with something thick and suffocating. She couldn’t form a sentence.
