“Dude, your journal is hilarious!” The words, so casually delivered, felt like a slap in the face. David stood there, completely stunned, the book he’d poured his soul into, carelessly tossed aside on the bed.

His roommate, Sam, laughed, completely oblivious to the turmoil he had unleashed. David felt a cold, hard knot in his gut. His hands were clenched into fists, the fingernails digging into his palms.

He turned away, unable to look at Sam, at the room, at anything. His world was crumbling. He had to breathe.
