The world outside the coffee shop seemed muted, the usual vibrant sounds muffled by the sudden hollowness inside Clara. The news report blared from a nearby screen. "Local Author Caught Copying!" She felt a rush of heat, followed by a chilling sense of dread.

Her hands clenched into fists on the table, nails digging into her palms. The accusations focused on her beloved author, Mr. Finch.

She remembered the late nights spent with his books, the joy they brought her. Now, that joy felt poisoned. She felt an overwhelming feeling of… being robbed.

Clara stood up so abruptly her chair scraped against the floor. She needed to escape. The aroma of coffee, usually a comfort, now made her feel nauseous.
