He waited, the cafe buzzing with chatter, the aroma of coffee filling the air. He had meticulously planned this meeting, wanting to rekindle their friendship. Now, however, the anticipation twisted into a painful knot in his stomach. He saw Olivia walk in, her face radiant.

"Olivia?" he asked, his voice strained.

She turned, her eyes scanning the room. When her gaze finally landed on him, she gave a polite, but completely blank, expression. His stomach dropped.

“Yes?” she asked, her voice was neutral.

"It's Mark," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "We… we used to build castles at the beach." He recalled the day he helped her. The joy on her face. Now, nothing.

Her expression remained unchanged. "I don't know you." She turned her head and scanned the room, looking for her friend. Mark felt the world around him tilt. He sat, stunned and alone.
