The ornate clock ticked loudly in the silent study, each tick a hammer blow against Amelia’s temples. She was surrounded by the trappings of a life well-lived, but the letter in her hand spoke of a very different story. The letter, addressed to her estranged sister, was a cry for connection.

*“I feel so alone,”* she read, her voice barely audible. The words were a mirror reflecting her deepest fears. She felt the tears begin to stream down her face, the salt stinging her cheeks. The letter contained the raw emotions of abandonment and a longing for reconciliation.

She slumped in her chair, the letter falling from her numb fingers.
