The world felt muted. Ms. Rodriguez stared at the sterile white walls of the hospital room, the rhythmic beeping of the machines a constant reminder of her mother’s illness. A nurse brought a small basket filled with vibrant, hand-painted ceramic flowers. A note was tucked inside. It was from a former student, Maria, who had always been a talented artist.
