He stared at the email again, the words blurring. The request was so simple: "Could we discuss the tree?" Simple words, but the implications... his throat constricted. Liam ran a hand through his already dishevelled hair. He felt a cold dread creeping into his bones, like the first tendrils of winter.

He glanced at the calendar. He had a meeting with the architect and then he was supposed to pick up the kids. He had so much on his plate already, and now this. Liam felt suffocated.

He leaned back in his chair, the leather creaking under his weight. He could feel the pulse in his temple. The tree’s canopy swayed gently outside his window, a mocking dance. He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself, but it didn't help. He had no clue how to handle the situation.
