Gemotions

The world felt too loud, too bright. Every shadow seemed to stretch and twist, mocking her. She hadn't slept properly in days, and the bags beneath her eyes were testament to her sleeplessness.

A sudden rap at the door. Her pulse quickened. She peered through the peephole to see a delivery person holding a vase overflowing with crimson roses. Her breath caught in her throat. Roses. Her grandmother's favorite.

The roses sat on her kitchen table, their vibrant colour a stark betrayal of the muted, grey world she inhabited. She couldn't understand who had sent them, or why. Their silent presence only intensified the ache in her chest.
