She stared at the flyer, the glossy image of a renovated lobby mocking her. Her hands felt clammy, and a cold sweat trickled down her spine. They were selling the building. Condos. It seemed impossible.

She ran her fingers through her hair, tugging at the strands. Her stomach clenched. The thought of moving, of finding a new place, filled her with a profound weariness.

The weight of it all pressed down on her. She wandered into the kitchen and poured a glass of wine, her hand shaking so badly she almost spilled it. Each sip did nothing to calm the chaos in her mind.

“This is not happening," she muttered, her voice brittle. She re-read the notice, the words blurring before her eyes. The idea of losing everything that was familiar brought a sharp, painful ache to her chest.
