The silence in the room was almost unbearable. My sister, Chloe, had just announced her conversion to Wicca. My hands felt clammy, and a cold sweat broke out on my forehead. I stared at her, the usual cheerful light in her eyes replaced with a different kind of glow that I didn't recognize.

I felt a dizzying sensation, like the world was tilting on its axis. The familiar furniture of the living room seemed distorted, the colors muted. I couldn't seem to breathe properly, as if a weight was pressing down on my chest. I excused myself, needing to escape the suffocating atmosphere.
