It had been years since she’d thought about "Mr. Grimshaw," the shadowy figure who had been her constant companion in childhood. He was a protector and a threat. Now, he was resurrected in the vibrant artwork of her young cousin, filling the pages with sketches of a figure with long, grasping fingers and a vacant stare. Her cousin described him with the same words she used to use. It made her feel physically sick.

She started to feel suffocated in her own apartment. The walls seemed to close in, the air heavy. She began to stay at work late, anything to avoid going home. She didn't want to go anywhere. She was trapped. She felt as though someone was watching her.

She found herself glancing at the shadows.
