The drive home felt longer than usual. The car's tires seemed to grind against the pavement, each rotation amplifying the chaotic thoughts swirling in Robert’s head. He had just confronted Ben, his best friend since childhood, about his fabricated career as a financial advisor. Ben actually cleaned swimming pools.

Robert gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles were white. The image of Ben, meticulously scrubbing algae from the bottom of a pool, flashed in his mind, juxtaposed with the image of him, Ben, giving advice on investments. The two images simply wouldn’t reconcile. He pulled over to the side of the road, the sudden stop a jarring punctuation mark in his turmoil.
