The elevator doors opened onto a new floor, a different world. It was a world of sales pitches and strategic meetings. He gripped the strap of his briefcase, the leather feeling rough and unfamiliar against his skin.

He felt a tightness in his chest as he walked down the hall, the energy of the new department pulsating with activity. The smiles of his new colleagues felt forced, as if they knew something he didn't.

He retreated to the men’s room. He splashed cold water on his face, trying to clear his head, but his reflection stared back with an unsettling hollowness. He felt a sense of dread, a chilling premonition he couldn't name.
