Gemotions

The rhythmic click-clack of the keyboard echoed through the house, usually a comforting sound. Tonight, it grated on Clara’s nerves. She stood at the doorway to Liam's office, the glow of the monitor illuminating his face. He was smiling, a genuine, unguarded smile, but he was looking at a screen filled with letters she didn't recognise.

She felt a coldness creep up her spine, like ice water trickling down her back. When she asked what he was working on, he flinched, then quickly minimized the window.

“Just… work,” he said, his voice clipped. The lie hung in the air, thick and heavy.

She found herself backing away, needing to put distance between herself and the situation. The walls of their house suddenly felt constricting.
