Gemotions

The rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the storm brewing inside him. He sat across from her, the silence between them heavier than the downpour outside. She had just finished a phone call, speaking in that new, hidden language.

He reached for her hand, wanting to bridge the widening gap. She flinched, pulling her hand away.

He felt a knot form in his throat, making it difficult to speak. The room seemed to tilt, the familiar furniture morphing into something alien. He wanted to scream, to lash out, but all he could do was sit there, trapped in a silence that was more deafening than any sound.
