Gemotions

“This is ridiculous,” I muttered, tossing the card onto the table. It was a generic, store-bought thing, emblazoned with glitter and a picture of a cake. No name, of course. My birthday was months away.

I felt suddenly restless. I began pacing the small apartment, unable to sit still. Every shadow in the corners of the room seemed to shift and change, mocking me. I kept glancing at the window, expecting to see something…someone…watching.

My breath came in shallow gasps. The silence was deafening, amplified by the frantic thudding of my heart. I grabbed my phone, and then dropped it, the metallic clang echoing in the stillness. I felt like I was being watched, from every corner.
