Gemotions

The musty scent of aged paper and binding clung to Amelia's fingers as she carefully extracted the letter. She'd bought the book, a collection of obscure Victorian poetry, for a song at a flea market. Now, a faint tremor ran down her spine. The handwriting on the envelope was elegant, looping script, unfamiliar, yet it seemed to know her.

She ripped it open, her breath catching. The words inside spoke of a secret, a hidden love, a yearning she couldn't immediately place. Her stomach churned, a cold knot forming in the pit. The room felt suddenly too warm, the shadows in the corners deepening as if watching her.

She paced her small apartment, the letter clutched tight. Her pulse hammered against her ribs. The poems she'd loved a moment ago now felt heavy, cloaked in a new, uncomfortable meaning. She had to know more, but the unanswered questions felt like a cage.
