A cold sweat plastered itself to Mark’s back as he stared at the invitation. He’d carefully curated his online persona, a sparkling façade of success and contentment. Now, this… this demanded a reckoning. He slammed the laptop shut, the abrupt action echoing unnaturally loud in the silent apartment. His breath hitched in his chest, a shallow, ragged rhythm. He went to the kitchen and poured himself a triple shot of whiskey, his hand shaking so violently the liquid splashed over the rim of the glass.
