He found the invitation tucked between the pages of a forgotten novel. The scent of old paper and dust filled the air, a familiar comfort that was now ruined. Michael felt his throat constrict. He tossed the book onto the floor, the pages fluttering open. He paced the length of his small apartment, his steps agitated, until finally, he stopped at the window.
