"The Duchess's Delight! The newest sensation!" The advert blazed from the magazine, featuring a picture of the chocolate cake. It was the name that did it. That was what her mother had always called it. Sarah's mother, a woman who had taught her everything, who had died a year ago. It was her cake, not this "Duchess."

Sarah's face felt hot, and her hands clenched into fists. She felt a sudden, almost uncontrollable urge to destroy something, to lash out at the injustice. She threw the magazine into the trash, the action giving her no relief. She wandered to the window, staring out at the world, feeling utterly adrift.
