The phone felt heavy in Sarah's hand. She’d been staring at Liam's contact information, his number, for an hour. Every time she got close to dialing, she'd retreat, her fingers clenching into fists. The memory of their meeting, or lack thereof, played on repeat in her mind like a broken record. His polite, almost clinical, response when she mentioned their shared past. “I’m afraid I don’t recall a friendship like that, ma’am.” Now, she felt a strange, prickly sensation across her skin, a desperate urge to scrub at something she couldn’t quite name.
