He found himself pacing his small apartment, the late afternoon sun casting long shadows across the floor. He'd been working on a new song, a slow ballad, filled with the raw ache of loneliness. Then, while flipping through channels, he heard it - his song, played by a boy band with perfect teeth and manufactured swagger.

His hand flew to the remote, and he slammed the power button. The silence was almost worse than the garish production. He ripped off his headphones, tossing them on the couch. He sat down heavily, the weight of it all pressing down on him. How could they… how could they make something so personal, so vulnerable, feel so… trivial?
