From the moment the news hit, John found himself oddly unable to concentrate. The presentation he was working on, previously his priority, now seemed utterly meaningless. He kept re-reading the headlines, the words “Sale Confirmed” taunting him. His hands wouldn’t stop trembling.

He pushed his chair back, the sudden motion making him feel dizzy. A knot tightened in his stomach, and he felt a desperate need to pace. He got up and walked to the window, staring out at the cityscape. It had always been a source of inspiration, but today, the buildings looked like looming threats.
