Gemotions

The letter arrived with a simple, plain envelope. The words were terse, filled with the clipped, business-like tone she had come to expect of the sender. The abruptness of it only seemed to accentuate the jagged edges of the past. The whole thing was incredibly irritating.

She went to the gym. The rhythmic pounding of the treadmill, the grunting of the other exercisers, didn't provide the usual relief. She ran faster, pushing herself to the point of exhaustion, but the image of the letter, the words, were imprinted on her mind.

Back home, she emptied her liquor cabinet. She drank, glass after glass, the alcohol doing nothing to dull the sharpness of the memories. Her thoughts swirled.
