The email pinged, a request from Ms. Rodriguez regarding the fence installation plans. She included a poll, a grid of options, a chance to voice my opinion, but I was not moved to fill it out. The world outside the window was alive with buzzing bees and chirping birds.

I made myself a cup of chamomile tea, its warmth spreading through me. The gentle scent filled the small apartment.

Later, she appeared at my door, a determined look on her face. I opened it and let her in, and then listened quietly to her pitch, agreeing to everything. My head nodded, and the world slowed to a crawl. It wasn't worth the trouble to complain.
