A young woman, all sharp angles and bright eyes, sat across from him. "So, the first thing is the filing system," he began, his voice barely a murmur. He gestured vaguely towards a wall of overflowing cabinets, a task he'd been putting off for months.

His fingers, usually adept at typing, now felt sluggish as he pulled open a drawer. The air tasted stale, like forgotten paperwork and the faint scent of cleaning solution. He felt a profound lack of resistance to anything, like a river that simply surrendered to its course.
