He watched the ants crawling on the pavement, mesmerized. The job interview was looming, a giant, looming presence, but for the moment, he was content. The late summer heat pressed down, making him feel even more... yielding.

His friend, Sarah, bounced beside him, rattling off interview strategies. "Remember, bold, confident, show them you're the best!" Her enthusiasm felt like a loud noise. He just hummed in response, his gaze still fixed on the tiny insects.

Inside the building, he let Sarah push him towards the front of the queue. He watched the other applicants, their aggressive postures, their sharp glances, and felt a profound sense of… passivity. When his name was called, he simply followed the receptionist, a blank slate, into the sterile office.
